St. Louis, let’s talk seriously for a second. Watch this video. Then come back. Two or three years ago, Laine and I had this very intense idea to buy an old brick city building and renovate it into a multi-media lab for the unemployed, disadvantaged youth, elderly, artists, anyone who needed powerful computers and good a/v equipment, a small recording studio, and a quiet, warm, friendly place to work on the stuff that could change their lives for the better. Laine would maintain the technology and I would help people with resumes and portfolios and applications, etc and we’d both teach little technology classes. I even mentioned it to a few friends and got a few people excited about it. But we realized it would be far more expensive than we could afford, and then things got crazy at work, and Laine’s job got less stressful, and then we forgot about it.

Brea and James have ideas and dreams like we do, but they carry them out. I am so happy they are in St. Louis and they see its incredible potential the way Laine and I do. Like they said, you can’t necessarily see the changes they are making to our community. Not yet. But they are investing in the future of our city in immeasurable ways that will radiate through multiple decades, and that will benefit everyone who lives here, whether they realize it or not.

We are all connected. We need our artists now more than we ever have. St. Louis is such a powerful place, full of creative people with giant dreams that just need a little kickstart. A tiny two-handed push from the Luminary might convince them that their dreams are worth pursuing, that they don’t have to leave to get it done, and that this liveable little city is worth staying for a lifetime.

If you can help Brea and James, or you know someone who can, PLEASE, get this video and link to them. We all rise together, and with The Luminary, we will all shine, too.
